The conservation community is mourning the tragic loss of Esmond Bradley Martin, killed this past weekend in his home in Nairobi. Esmond was the leading investigator of the rhino horn and elephant ivory trade, and his contributions to market data for trade regulations and bans are second to none. As Cynthia Moss wrote yesterday, "No one comes close to what he did in revealing the routes, the markets, the prices and in many cases the traders in ivory and rhino horn. His work was instrumental in the closing of the ivory trade in China. We have lost a true conservationist and for many of us working in conservation here in Kenya, we have lost a friend."
